Housing

Live With an American Homestay Family

Living with an American family is an excellent way to experience American life, practice English, and learn more about the culture. There are a limited number of homestay families (especially for male students). Every effort will be made to help you find a homestay. If a homestay family cannot be found to meet your needs, ULI will help you to choose another housing option (apartment or extended stay hotel).

HOMESTAY APPLICATION PROCESS

  1. Check the Available Homestay Families Chart to see if there is a homestay family available to fit your needs.
  2. Contact ULI to let us know which families you like so that we can find out if they are available for you or not.
  3. Send your Homestay Application and $100 homestay application fee to reserve the homestay.

PLEASE REMEMBER:

  • Homestay families are currently NOT available for males over the age of 18. This is because we only have a few homestay families that accept male students and many of the older males we've placed with homestay families have not been respectful of their homestay families.
  • Families are available first to students under age 18 because they cannot rent an apartment or stay in an extended stay hotel alone.
  • Please apply for your homestay at least 30 days before you plan to start classes at ULI to give us time to place you.
  • The homestay families listed on the Available Homestay Families Chart are the only ones that we have.
  • If you agree to live with a homestay family that doesn't provide meals or transportation, your housing price may be reduced.
  • The family that you like may not be available if you wait too late. Many students apply and pay their reservation fee as many as 6 months in advance, so you need to apply early to get a family. We will NOT reserve a homestay family for you until after you have submitted a homestay application and homestay application fee.
  • Submitting a homestay application and application fee does not guarantee you a family if there is not one available. If we are unable to find a homestay family to fit your needs before you arrive, we will apply your homestay application toward your tuition and give you information to help you rent an apartment or extended stay hotel room.
  • Once we have a homestay family secured for you, we will send you information about that family and the family will reserve that room for you.

COSTS

$100 ..... Homestay Application Fee (due with Homestay Application)
$650 ..... Monthly Homestay Price (paid to the homestay family each month)
$100 .... Personal expenses (toiletries and other personal items you may need)

THIS COST INCLUDES

  • A Room (student is responsible for keeping it clean)

  • A Bathroom (may share with a family member or guests)

  • Meals (American breakfast, sack lunch, and evening meal)

  • Transportation to and from school (this may be by car or bus)

HOMESTAY INFORMATION

The rules and regulations as well as what you can expect from a homestay family can be found in the Homestay Handbook.

Here's an article about "The Typical American Home" from the site Life in the USA.

If you are an American family that would like to host an international student, you can find out more information about our homestay program at the ULI Host Family website.
